A Special Day
Every school has special days. In BGS such special dates are May 6 and December 19.
Why December 19?
As we know, the tradition associated with the name of St. Nicholas originated in the city of Cologne in the tenth century. Every year, on December 19 (St. Nicholas Day), parents filled their children’s boots with gifts and told them that they were brought by St. Nicholas, the patron saint of children. This is how St. Nicholas Day used to be celebrated in Europe from the 10th to the 16th century. Later, children’s beloved December 19 was replaced by December 25, and the name of St. Nicholas was changed into Santa Claus.
